Flower Preservation in Resin Keepsakes

Picture your wedding bouquet, or any flowers that matter, preserved to hold onto their beauty, colour and structure, then set in crystal-clear resin in a style that's modern and tangible. A resin keepsake takes the flowers and turns them into something you'll actually see and hold.  A glass-like artwork that catches and shines in the light, that holds onto a moment that meant something so special.

Every flower that goes into resin starts the same way as my other pieces, fully dried in silica gel first, over about four weeks. Resin isn't a shortcut or a different starting point, it's simply a different finish once the drying is done. From there, each flower is carefully set in layers using a high-quality, Australian-sourced epoxy resin, chosen for its clarity, so the finished piece stays clear rather than cloudy or yellowed.

A Few Things People Ask About Resin Preservation

Can you use fresh flowers straight into resin?

No. Fresh flowers still hold moisture, and moisture inside resin causes cloudiness, bubbles, and can lead to mould. So every flower I set in resin has already been fully dried in silica gel first, the same careful process I use for my framed and domed pieces. That takes about four weeks on its own, and only once a flower is properly dry does the resin process begin.

Does resin yellow or fade over time?

I haven't seen any yellowing in the pieces I've made so far. As with all my keepsakes, I never promise a forever product, natural materials shift over time. To help your piece stay looking its best, keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat, both can speed up any colour change over time.

Can I include a photo or memento in the piece?

Yes, many people like to set in a small photo, a piece of fabric, or another meaningful memento alongside the flowers. Get in touch and we can talk through what's possible for your piece.
